The HMRC are a government organisation and the UK tax authority. They are responsible for taxation and for ensuring funds are available for public services.
UK Tax and National Insurance
Income Tax
Income tax is deducted from wages, there will be an amount each year you can earn without tax and this will be indication by your yearly tax code.

National Insurance
National Insurance is also deducted from wages and pays for certain benefits, public services, and contributes to the state pension.
